The Get Up Kids are the epitome of cool, cough cough. As bassist Rob Pope puts it, they are a “Midwestern Rock” band, and we’re not talking John Mellencamp or REO Speedwagon Midwestern Rock, but more along the lines of The Replacements and Cheap Trick. Punk and classic rock influenced rock n’ roll, with lyrics that are straightforward and from the heart. If the name sounds familiar, it could be because the GUK sold over 150,000 units of their Vagrant debut album, Something To Write Home About, catapulting Vagrant Records to where it is today.
