Former vocalist of post-hardcore band Million Dead, Frank Turner,is back with his Epitaph Records debut album. “Poetry Of The Deed” takes from where the previous “Love Ire & Song” left, even tough on this new LP Turner is able to focus his art more on playing catchy and less angry songs.
The single “The Road” is a good proof of that: it’s an epic, anthemic and melodic folk punk song about finding your way, with an infectious chorus and lots of singing alongs. The other songs sound quite similar if you’re not really into the genre, but Turner is able to put his personal touch on any songs: “Live Fast Die Old” is quite possibly the anti-punk anthem, while “Faithful Son” is almost a song by Christian emo rockers mewithoutYou.
Produced by Alex Newport (of At The Drive-In, Rival Schools and Death Cab For Cutie fame), the record is a great collection of songs for the lovers of Billy Bragg inspired indie punk and folk rock.
