Direct Hit! hail from Milwaukee and are surely the most exciting pop punk band around today. They self-release their music, play totally fun and awesome tunes and have got the perfect “fuck you, get pumped” attitude I love to see in guys that do not take themselves too seriously.
The band’s fifth EP is made of four kicking ass melodic song that made me fall in love for Direct Hit! immediately, and the reason is quite simple: these are the best songs I heard in a very long time. Probably in a couple years. The music is catchy, with super melodic vocals, clean sounds (the drumming and the guitars have improved so much since the previous EP’s) and rough vocals that remind of Tom Petta of Bigwig; plus, the lyrics are totally clever, smartass and – did I already mentioned that? – super fun!!
“Satan Says” opens the EP with very fast guitar riffs, and the fun goes on with “First Train Out”. But the really amazing songs are the last two: “Captain Asshole” and “More Of The Same” are not just smart pop punk love songs but have got that anthemic twist (thanks to the backup vocals by such bands as The Gusto, Masked Intruder, and The Transgressions) that will make these everyone’s favorite live songs in a very short time.
