Southern California Street Music is the latest release by the Voodoo Glow Skulls.   This album like many of their previous albums is full of fast pace intense songs that make you want to dance until you cant stand.  This latest album is in my opinion more intense and out of control then their previous album. I would have to say this is their least SKA focused album to date with more punk influence then SKA.  Don’t think that this album has no SKA influence at all, its everywhere with blasting horns and the quick stop go stop go style you might be used to with Voodoo Glow Skulls.

With the release of this new album you can expect to see the Voodoo Glow Skulls back in action.  This album seems to breath some life back into this band that has been aging and growing a bit stagnant. But as you will see with this new album this isn’t the case at all.

Secret Weapon

MXPX is back on their home label Tooth And Nail Records after releasing “Panic” on Side One Dummy. The new album sees a change in the MXPX’s music composition, as the band seems to be back to the old roots, with a straight punk rock sound, made of fast and short songs.

“Secret Weapon” is a record filled with melodies, anthemic parts, where the melodic vocals of Mike Herrera is fused with the gang vocals of the choruses. The songs are very fast, and there is no ballad, with such tunes as “Shut It Down”, “Punk Rock Celebrity” and “You’re On Fire” where MXPX plays as fast as in the old “Punk Rawk Show” days.

The album comes out also in a special edition, with four bonus songs and a bonus DVD with the making of the record and interesting interviews with all the band members where they speak about “Secret Weapon” and their lives.
