Living Shotgun is the debut release from Guilty Party.  This album starts off with their title track “Living shotgun” with sets the rest of the album and leads to songs like Sourr Flavor, and leaving Blues.

This Long Island, NY band is hard hitting and progressive in this first release and are on to a good start with album.  With their planned European tour U.S. hardcore fans will need to wait until spring to check these guys out.

Guilty Party have a great traditional hardcore sound with pissed well thought provoking lyrics.

Human Fallout is the fourth release by this politically charged German hardcore band.  Adjudgement caries many of the traditional old school hardcore sounds and musical styles that you don’t normally expect to hear these days with many of the songs focusing on political issues like global capitalism and artificial trends within their scene.

Adjudgement comes off as being very bitter with where music (in the hardcore scene) has progressed to over the years.  I don’t know much about the German hardcore scene but if its any thing like the north American hardcore scenes (the exception is California these days) I would have to agree with them.

Human Fallout is a short and bitter album with many of the songs barely over 2 minutes long. The songs are to the point and always aggressive.  This album would really be enjoyed by anyone who loves pissed off politically charged lyrics, fast and to the point songs charged with emotion and anger or anyone one who loves the old fashioned hardcore sound.

Genuine Sense of Outrage

The Warriors are a band with an objective.  To remind people what hardcore was about, and what it should be about still.  Songs are short, hard and fast with a traditional early hardcore sound with hard and to the point vocals.

This album is simply amazing. Genuine Sense of Outrage has everything you would want in a hardcore album. Aggressive and intense vocals and sound, and angry brutal lyrics.

Genuine Sense of Outrage also has guest vocalists on the album of Lemmy Kilmister (motorhead), Lou Koller (sick of it all) and Andrew Neufeld (comeback Kid).

This album will be a refreshing release for those who are into the traditional sounds and styles of hardcore music.  If you hate the nu metal shit that has been taking so spotlight these days your going to need to check this album out.

10.  If He’s Here, Who’s Running Hell?

11.  MANIAC (R.O.D)

Rise or Die trying is the latest release by Four Year strong.  This new album should be hitting stores and websites in Mid September 2007.

The new album goes back and forth between pop punk and hardcore sound with the occasional mix of the two.  Many of the songs have anthems and some good poppy very happy lyrics and sound.

This is the second release by Four Year Strong following their previous album which was a self released album.

The album as a whole is pretty good, their playing ability is amazing and their songs are really good, it was just a little too collage punk rock like for me.   But some people really like that, the very clean, happy and excitable type of punk rock.

Abominations is the debut album for Schoolyard Heroes which is set to be released in September of 2007. This Seattle band who has been around for a while is off to a great start with this new album.

The lead singer (Ryann Donnelly) has a voice that can be charming and endearing one minute and then out of now where attacks you with dark and violent imagery that this band does so well with.

This band crosses between screaming punk fucking rock to horror rock so very well.  Nearly all the songs are dark and morbid in that good way.

If your into horror punk, rockabilly, or just good old fashioned punk music you’ll need to check these folks out, their new album or go check out one of their shows.

13.   What You Say

I am very exsited by this new album “In Black and White” by Mustard Plug.  This is the 6th full length album  release by Mustard plug in their 16 years as a band.

The new album has a great sound with the traditional sound of horns popping lyrics and super fast dance dace sound.  In my opinion their style has changed a bit from their previous release but their sound is more like their previous release from years passed.

So many of the songs on this album are toe tapping and head bopping that are full of energy and will help brighten your day.

There are some amazing songs on this album like Hit Me! Hit Me! which is my personal favorite.  There are a couple of songs that were pretty damn good but I couldn’t get into like Real Rat Bastard which is more of an anthem rocking song.

All in all if you’re a SKA fan your going to buy this album regardless of what I say because its fucking Mustard Plug.  But for those who aren’t into SKA too much but still appreciate the sound then you too should check this album.

Quo Vadimus

After a debut record, Jena Berlin found a home on Jump Start Records, which is the record label that helped A Wilhelm Scream to become big. And Jena Berlin will probably follow the same path. Jena Berlin is clever, from the band’s name to the album’s title: Jena and Berlin are the two cities in Germany where Karl Marx attended college, while “Quo Vadimus” is latin for “where are we going”. Class is not for everyone, and Jena Berlin is one of the few bands that still has class in making titles.

On their sophomore record, this Philadelphia five piece is able to create new and never before heard music fusing elements of hardcore punk with more melodic parts: the screams are not the same old ones, and the band sounds as a cross between a Dischord Records band and a Swedish post hardcore band. Such songs as “Instruments”, “Chelsea” and “Communique” sound so loud and so intense that you cannot not feel the passion and the sweat floating though your stereo.

I must say “Quo Vadimus” is the most impressing post-hardcore punk album I have heard since “The Shape Of Punk To Come” by The Refused. Seriously, Jena Berlin released my favorite album of the year.

A Cheap Print Of A Masterpiece

Monday, August 20th, 2007

After an EP and a seven inch, Giving Chase releases their first proper full album on Jump Start Records. I’ll tell you that I am quite excited about this band, not just because of their songs I heard randomly on their site, but also because Jump Start is the record label that discovered amazing bands like A Wilhelm Scream and I am quite sure they do an amazing job with Giving Chase, too.

“A Cheap Print Of A Masterpiece” is a very original album, where the five piece is able to fuse old school hardcore punk with more melodic lines, as a cross between Comeback Kid and No Trigger, but with a faster and harder approach. The record does not have a weak point, and when songs as “The Grand Escape” and “While Nero Played” are heard, you really surprise yourself that this band has not become huge yet. Anthemic hardcore parts leave place to more melodic guitar riffs, creating a fusion of hardcore punk that is great if you like bands as A Wilhelm Scream and the likes.

I recommend this record to all the people who want to hear something new and fresh in the hardcore punk community.

Tracklist

Rival Factions

Project 86 are back with their 6th full length album and this time things have changed. “Rival Factions” is the most diverse, intense and ever changing album that the band ever released. While on the previous albums the band tried to release good quality, hard rock music, on the new album, Project 86 try to reach new levels of rock and roll development, with the input of new elements as chaotic guitar riffs, yet on melodic songs, with intricate and complex structures.

“Rival Factions” features songs like “The Kane Mutiny” and “Put Your Lips To The TV” that have the ability to create a new sound in the rock scene, putting elements as strong heavy guitar riffs and bass lines that alternate to rock and roll rhythms and harmonic vocal lines.

Recommended if you enjoy good rock and roll fused with post hardcore, ala At The Drive-In meets Muse.

Secondhand Dreaming

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

Ruth is an acronym for Return Us To Him. The debut album by this rock band is a mix between the 90’s alternative rock and the pop rock, as a mix between Nirvana, Radiohead and The Couting Crows.

“Secondhand Dreaming” is filled with emotive melody, memorable choruses, and passionate
songwriting, with songs like “Cross The Line” and “Here To New York” where you can hear the soft sound of melody turning into memorable rock anthems. The dynamic sound of Ruth is very catchy, harmonic and stick in your ears for weeks after you heard the songs, with “You Are” as the best song of the whole album.

Recommended if you enjoy good quality catchy pop rock.
