Secrets Keep You Sick

Friday, June 15th, 2007

urbn Posted:

The Fold’s second album is a breath of fresh air in a world filled with boring bands: the pop punk and emo world are growing old, but luckily there are bands like The Fold.

“Secrets Keep You Sick” is a superb album where every song is a powerful hit single, where there is no space for boredom and most important, there is no filler in this album.

“Medicie”, the opening track, is a strong, ultra catchy anthem, where you fill find yourself singing along at the end of the first chorus, with lines like “put your favorite record on, go straight to your favorite song”. Now , that is a medicine! The album also has standout tracks - even tough all the songs are good and there is not a “best” song - with “New Skeptic” the melodic, semi acoustic “Hey Rebecca”.

There is also space for experiments, on such tunes as “Closer” and “Down In Doubt And Living Without”, where The Fold fuses electronic elements with pop punk choruses. If Relient K is your favorite band, then The Fold have just released your favorite album of the year.

The Physics Of Fire

Metal band Becoming The Archetype is back with their second album on Solid State Records. Influenced by such metal acts as Lamb Of God, Mastodon and Living Sacrifice, Becoming The Archetype puts full energy into their songs, playing heavy, metallic guitar riffs, fusing them with screamings, piano driven melodies and even more.

“The Physics Of Fire” is an original release where the band is able to fuse the extreme, North European metal sound with the American one, to create a cross between melody and fury, between harmony and metal, in an attempt to create something new, and making it happen on tunes like “The Great Fall” and “Epoch Of War”.

The result is an eleven song album that is really hard to label: metal, extreme, noisy, hardcore? Mayve all of these and maybe nothing at all. Just a beautiful album of inspired music.

Wake Up! Wake Up!

Everyday Sunday’s third full album is like a punch in the face, with the four boys screaming from the cover artwork through the speakers of the stereo. “Wake Up! Wake Up!” is a message more than just an album, and the lyrics have got a very important part in the songs, screaming out messages for the listeners.

The record starts with the anthemic “Let’s Go Back”, and the ten songs on the record do not leave a single space to boredom, or slow moments: songs like “Apathy For Apologies” and “I’ll Get Over It (Miss Elaineous)” have got catchy choruses, fast guitar riffs, melodic lines and powerful vocals, stressed by a perfect production.

Influenced by the likes of Relient K and MXPX, Everyday Sunday deliver some great catchy pop punk, and I recommend everyone who want to spend summer days of fun to listen to “Wake Up! Wake Up!”, you won’t be disappointed.

Neon Horse

Neon Horse is a progressive rock band hailing from Seattle. Their debut album on Tooth And Nail came out last month and I almost did not notice it. Luckily, after hearing these tunes, I can say the revolution sound in modern rock is here, inside this disc.

Neon Horse have got super progressive riffs, influenced by the likes of Portugal. The Man, Circa Survive, Men,Women And Children, The Sound Of Animals Fighting and The Killers, with a strong attention for ecletic melodies, original song structures and powerful rock and rolling guitar riffs, with hints of electronic beats.

The album is made of ten anthems for people who have an open mided and do not listen to a single genre: you will find everything here. from punk rock to pop, from rock to 80’s dance music, all shaked together in one single full length.

Tension

Dizmas is back with their second disc on Credential Records. After a strong release where they played positive indie rock pop music influenced by the likes of Rooney and Relient K.

“Tension” is a twelve song disc where the emotion of lyrics meets the pop sensibility of the five piece band, and on tracks like “See Daylight” and “Nothing At All” you can hear how Dizams is all about playing good quality pop songs, with a touch of rock.

If you like such bands as Relient K and Weezer, Dizmas is a great new indie rock band that will make your ears happy to listen to something really new.

Fiends

Mono Vs.Stereo’s Chasing Victory release their sophomore full length album after the 2006’s masterpiece “I Call This Abandonment”. If on the previous album, this Georgia band reminded of such bands as Underoath, Deftones and My Chemical
Romance, on the new disc, this five piece finds originality and fuses it with hard rocking anthems.

The record, which is a concept album about “fiends”, picks up from where the older album did, with some clear references to older lyrics too. Such new songs as “Wolves”, “Chemicals” and “Janus” show how the band does not only rock with heavy guitar riffs, but also add elements as horns, strings and complex instrumentations that give more originality to the tunes. Differently from the previous album, the screaming vocals almost disappeared, for a more melodic and straight vocal lines.

“Fiends” is a strong album that sees Chasing Victory releasing some of the finest and most original post hardcore music around today.

1. Bride

2. Chemicals

3. Wolves

4. Fiends

5. Queen

6. King

7. Barbarian

8. Janus

Ghoul punk at its best!  Not only does every track on this album rock and get you dancing, but the lyrics are just too damn funny or just simply amazing.  I have been on a horror punk kick for the last few weeks now and  Lights out is really the best album I have heard in the horror punk category.  One thing this album makes me remember is that it is always ok to be in love with a dead body.

If you get a chance to listen to this ablum check out “lisa’s Grave” or “Cartoon Casualty”.

Raise your glass (tavern punk?) is a very fun, energetic album with all the songs rocking from start to finish.  This is a great album if your hanging out with a group of friends with a 12 pack of your favorite brew.  Not every song is about drinking, but they really should be.  There are a number of songs that you just want to sing along with or maybe stumble around too and raising your glass during the choruses.

My favorite song on this album would have to be “City Lights” which if you couldn’t guess is all about getting fucked up and going to a show.

Brutal and aggressive in every fucking way.  This band is what I think hardcore should sound like.  Metal with 1990’s hardcore sound with a some crust and snot thrown in for good measure.  The lyrics though the album are intense with personal experiences many of us can relate too as well as  realistic political ideals in every song.  Bands like Die Young are a great example of bands that can cause changes and really get people to understand and listen to the shit in the world that needs to be changed.
