Green Day 21st Century Breakdown is the first full length studio album released since the 2004 release American Idiot. The first single off the album will be released April 16th. Sources say this first single will be released digitally though we should expect it to be released as a CD later on. “Know Your Enemey” will be the track for the released single.
Full album release is planned for May 15th and will have a total of 18 tracks which is a suprising number of tracks. Normaly a band could put out 2 albums or 1 album and several smaller releases afterwards. In my opinion this is a suprising step for the band.
The artwork was done by one Chris Biilheimer who was also the artist to design the previous album covers for American Idiot and Warning albums.
Plans for the band to start a North American tour in July of 2009 where it is said the band will be playing 21st Century Breakdown entirely at all the shows during this tour.
At a listening session Sping magazine was quoted as saying the following about the album:
“In the six songs, Green Day keep their punk urgency and lyrical angst, but expand their ambition. They use dramatic musical shifts reminiscent of Queen, and Who-like classic rock guitars.”
