Regarding Debbie Harry, she was awesome in the 70s. While she did not hide her sexuality (the girl couldn’t help it), it really was not too overt. And the press didn’t think she used sexuality conventionally or in a harmless way; it was actually unconventional for a female musical performer at that time to use it at all. Sorry, but the perception of her was not exactly Debbie Boone or Linda Ronstadt. Finally, “sold out”? Yes how dare a band have commercial success or explore different types of music. None of the other bands from the punk scene-Sex Pistols, the Clash, the Ramones, the Runaways, etc.-had any commercial aspirations. Oh wait, it was the complete opposite. And Heart of Glass (presuming that’s what you are referring too) is a great song with an interesting history. They should have “sold out” more often.
