MxPx - Panic

Mxpx is back with a brand new album on Side One Dummy, after a career spent on Tooth And Nail and a couple of major label album. Their previous disc Before Everything & After was not that great but still I had faith these three Bremerton guys could release a solid disc. And in fact Panic does not disappoint. A cd where you can hear MXPX in perfect fit playing power pop punk anthems like it was in the good old days. Cold Streets, Call In Sick and Get Me Out are perfect examples of how Mike Herrera & co. did not lose the ability of writing good catchy melodies, with spirit filled lyrics. There is also space for more mellow and melodic slow songs, as Wrecking Hotel Rooms ( where you can hear Mark Hoppus, too ) and the synth inspired Grey Skies Turn Blue, which reminds me an Ataris song. The album is anyway filled with good catchy tunes lik Heard That Sound, Emotional Anarchist and Young And Depressed, even tough these last two songs have really simple lyrics (you're young and depressed, but you are well dressed). With Panic you can say MXPX is back to play good music as they used to with Life In General and Tennage Politics, and this is a great news for pop punk lovers.
